The Minister of Energy, Owais Laghari, has announced measures aimed at easing the Ramadan observance for Pakistan’s households and businesses. In a bid to maintain uninterrupted electricity supply during Sehri (sunset meal) and Iftar (evening meal), the Power Division has implemented detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all distribution companies, including K-Electric.
These SOPs are designed with consumer convenience in mind, ensuring that consumers do not experience any disruptions to their electricity services throughout the holy month. Additionally, CEOs of these companies have been instructed to establish control rooms to monitor power distribution in real time, focusing particularly on high-loss areas where load management will be fine-tuned outside Sehri and Iftar hours.
To combat electricity theft, measures are being intensified in these regions, aiming to prevent financial losses and enhance efficiency. Notably, the Power Division has stressed that unannounced load-shedding must be avoided during Ramadan, ensuring that citizens can observe the holy month without any interruptions.
In parallel, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) also announced an uninterrupted gas supply for Sehri and Iftar hours to facilitate consumers. The official statement emphasizes that households should not face difficulties in preparing meals at critical fasting times, with special arrangements being put in place to manage demand during peak usage periods.
These measures underscore the government’s commitment to making Ramadan as hassle-free as possible, particularly by ensuring reliable electricity and gas supply during Sehri and Iftar.
