Ministry of Finance Releases Funds to Clear Passport Backlog in Islamabad

The Ministry of Finance has taken decisive steps to address the current backlog of passports by releasing necessary funds.

Reports from sources quoting Passport Office insiders indicate that international tenders have been issued for the procurement of printing machines and e-passport equipment, alongside advertisements for lamination papers used in the printing process.

Efforts are underway to swiftly conclude the procurement process for passport machinery and lamination paper, with expectations that the backlog will be resolved upon completion. Presently, over 800,000 passports are awaiting printing.

Passport and immigration officials reveal that the printing capacity stands at 20 to 25 thousand passports daily, while applications for passport issuance, based on customs clearance, range from 40 to 45 thousand daily.
