Modern Training Rebuilds Strong Pakistan Hockey Squad for Asia Cup

Samiullah Khan, Chief Selector of Pakistan’s national hockey team, announced modern training techniques are being used to rebuild a strong and balanced squad. The focus is on the upcoming Asia Cup.

During his visit to China Window in Peshawar, Khan spoke about open trials for the senior team aimed at identifying talent nationwide. He emphasized efforts to revive hockey at grassroots levels.

The selection committee members present included Olympians Nasir Ali, Naeem Akhtar, Ayaz Mahmood, Atif Bashir, Shakeel Abbasi, and Kashif Jawad.

Khan highlighted challenges such as lack of sponsorship and financial difficulties for players, stressing the need for better support and employment opportunities. He added that modernization efforts are underway to review club-level structures.

His immediate goals include reaching the Asia Cup final and improving performance in the Hockey World Cup, with optimism about regaining past glory through consistent efforts.
