National Assembly Approves Telecom Reorganisation Amendments

The National Assembly has approved the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organisation) Amendment Bill 2025 with a majority vote. Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja presented the bill in the lower house.

An amendment moved by government lawmaker Huma Akhtar Chughtai was also approved, although she could not explain the details of her proposed amendment in the session. The federal IT minister later clarified that the amendment relates to changing the retirement age limit for judges of the appellate tribunal.

Amendments proposed by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) lawmaker Syed Naveed Qamar were also approved. Qamar had presented three amendments to the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organisation) Amendment Bill 2025, proposing setting limits on fines imposed during dispute resolution proceedings and giving authority for resolving disputes related to rights of way for laying 5G fibre cables to provincial and relevant government institutions.
