NEPRA Reviews CPPA’s Rs5/unit Tariff Hike Request

Power consumers may face another financial hit as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is set to review a plea from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) seeking a Rs5 per unit increase in the base tariff, sources informed Headline PK.

The proposed hike aims to impose an additional burden of over Rs310 billion on electricity consumers. NEPRA will make a decision on CPPA’s request tomorrow, which pertains to the base tariff for the fiscal year 2024-25.

CPPA has presented seven scenarios for power purchase prices, ranging from Rs25.03 to Rs27.11 per unit.

If approved, the overall burden of power purchase prices is expected to soar to Rs3.58 trillion, significantly straining electricity consumers.
