NEPRA Slashes EV Charging Tariff to Boost Electric Vehicle Uptake

Pakistan’s National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a sharp reduction in electricity tariffs for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, cutting the basic rate from Rs45.55 to Rs23.57 per unit.

The move comes following a federal government request aimed at encouraging EV adoption and expanding access to charging infrastructure across the country. The new tariff represents a Rs21.98 per unit decrease, making EV charging significantly more affordable.

In addition to the rate cut, NEPRA has also removed the capped margin of Rs24.44, allowing a free-market approach to determine profit margins for EV charging providers.

Officials hope this decision will stimulate private investment in EV infrastructure and make electric mobility a more viable option for consumers.

The development aligns with the government’s broader energy and environmental goals, as the country looks to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and curb urban pollution.

Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry announced that petroleum product prices will remain unchanged.
