Netanyahu Calls for Iran Nuclear Infrastructure Dismantling Amid US-Iran Talks

A second round of talks between the United States and Iran is set to commence this week, marking a renewed effort in resolving their decades-long nuclear dispute. During a speech at the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations in Jerusalem, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his skepticism about any potential deal with Tehran. According to Netanyahu, the US must include the dismantling of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure rather than just halting enrichment activities.

In a clear indication that Israel remains vigilant over regional security concerns, Netanyahu also reiterated his position on Gaza tunnels. He stated that Israel has already destroyed 150 kilometers out of an estimated total of 500 kilometers and vowed to continue this effort until the job is complete. The Israeli leader suggested that if any deal were reached with Iran, it should ensure no enriched material remains within Iranian territory.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump’s administration continues to prepare for a possible military response in case talks fail. This includes dispatching a second aircraft carrier into the region and preparing contingency plans that could lead to sustained conflict.

Netanyahu’s stance on aid has also been in focus. The Prime Minister indicated his intention to phase out US military support for Israel within ten years, with plans to reduce $3.8 billion annually spent in the United States on equipment down to zero by 2028. He proposed moving from a relationship characterized by aid to one of partnership.

These statements underscore Netanyahu’s commitment to securing Israel’s strategic interests and aligning them with international norms regarding nuclear non-proliferation, while also hinting at broader geopolitical shifts in the region. Whether these negotiations result in a mutually acceptable agreement remains uncertain but continues to influence regional dynamics significantly.
