One person was arrested in Karachi for allegedly involving themselves in the display of explicit videos on digital advertising screens. South Deputy Inspector General Syed Asad Raza confirmed this development to Dawn. Earlier, he had indicated that police were investigating whether the screens had been “hacked through Wi-Fi” or if an insider was responsible.

On Wednesday evening, several reports surfaced on social media claiming that a private company’s ad boards were showing obscene visuals. A case was subsequently registered against unidentified employees of the company for displaying obscene videos in violation of Section 292 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which bans the sale, distribution, public exhibition, or circulation of obscene material.

The complainant from the company’s legal adviser reported that on Wednesday, they received information from the operation director about explicit videos being shown on surface-mount devices (SMD) screens positioned near Ayesha Masjid on Khayaban-i-Ittehad. The complaint stated that there were reasonable doubts regarding whether the employee(s) of the company had displayed these obscene videos with the intent to defame the company, leading to legal proceedings.
