Pakistan carried out airstrikes in Afghanistan targeting TTP camps, resulting in the death of over 80 terrorists, according to security sources. On Saturday night, Pakistan’s intelligence-based air strikes destroyed seven centers associated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants in Nangarhar, Paktika, and Khost provinces.
This targeted operation followed earlier statements by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, who confirmed that 70 terrorists were killed as part of a broader campaign to curtail cross-border militancy. The minister added that militant hideouts were located in areas along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, including Barmal in Paktika province, the Khogyani district of Nangarhar, and other border regions.
The airstrikes are seen as a retaliatory response to recent suicide bombings in Islamabad, Bajaur, and Bannu. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting described these strikes as “precise and accurate,” in response to threats posed by elements linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliates, Fitna al-Khawarij (FAK), as well as Daesh-Khorasan.
Chaudhry emphasized that while Afghanistan has been exporting terrorism for years, Pakistan remains committed to securing its citizens’ safety. He stated that the state would continue to combat cross-border threats decisively, despite ongoing tensions with Kabul over security and compliance with international agreements.
However, Chaudhry accused the Afghan interim government of failing to uphold their commitments under the 2020 Doha Agreement. This has led to an escalation in tensions between Islamabad and Kabul since the Taliban’s return to power last year. Pakistan claims that cross-border militant attacks have increased due to security lapses by the Afghan government, prompting continued diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving these issues.
Tensions were further heightened when the Taliban denied any involvement in allowing militants to operate within their territory, a stance also supported by United Nations reports identifying multiple militant groups operating in Afghanistan. As such, Pakistan continues to seek cordial relations with its neighbors while addressing security concerns through both diplomatic channels and military engagements.
