The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued an early warning forecast on Tuesday, indicating that morning and evening temperatures in Karachi are expected to rise from Wednesday. According to the PMD, the minimum temperature will range between 11 and 13 degrees Celsius, with a maximum of around 23 to 25 degrees Celsius expected over the next three days. Winds from various directions are anticipated.

Additionally, the department noted that sea breezes may become briefly active in Karachi starting from Wednesday evening. Thursday’s weather is forecasted to have partly cloudy conditions.

In contrast, other districts within the province are projected to experience cold to very cold weather conditions, as stated by the PMD.

Regarding other regions of the country, cloud cover with intermittent rain and thunderstorms, along with snowfall over hilly areas, is expected in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, northeast Punjab, and northeast Balochistan. In these regions, temperatures are predicted to remain cold and dry.

Temperature recordings from major cities on Tuesday morning showed: Islamabad and Peshawar at 10°C, Lahore at 12°C, Karachi at 14°C, Quetta at -1°C, Murree and Gilgit at 2°C, and Muzaffarabad at 4°C.

Previously, a severe cold wave had continued in Karachi and throughout Sindh, causing temperatures to drop across the province. The PMD stated that this ongoing cold spell could persist until the end of the month, with some days expected to have single-digit temperatures.

The PMD also confirmed that the current cold spell has not broken any historical records, as Karachi’s lowest temperature was recorded at zero degrees Celsius in 1934, followed by 1.3 degrees in 1986, 6.5 degrees in 2014, 5.6 degrees in 2020, and between 6.2 to 8 degrees Celsius in January 2025.
