The Pakistan Navy has initiated Operation Muhafiz-ul-Bahr, a robust naval initiative designed to secure critical maritime trade routes and protect national interests in an increasingly complex regional security landscape.
Launched amid evolving maritime threats and concerns over potential disruptions to vital sea lanes, the operation aims to safeguard national shipping and ensure uninterrupted supply chains. This strategic move comes as Pakistan’s economy heavily depends on maritime trade—nearly 90 percent of its imports and exports traverse these channels.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the initiative targets multidimensional threats within the maritime domain and ensures the steady flow of energy supplies essential for national commerce. Under this operation, naval vessels are escorting merchant ships in close cooperation with the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC), enhancing security for commercial shipping routes.
Naval officials confirmed active surveillance and operational control measures across key corridors utilized by Pakistan’s commercial fleet and other cargo-carrying vessels. So far, two merchant ships have been escorted, including one scheduled to arrive at Karachi port today, representing the initial phase of the security mission.
