Pakistani authorities have reported a significant step forward on Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2025, securing a score of 28—their highest mark since 2021—up one point from the previous year. This improvement has positioned Pakistan at position 136 globally, marking a consistent trajectory in combatting corruption over the past four years.

Transparency International’s annual report underscores Pakistan’s progress by emphasizing several key areas of reform and reduction. Administrative corruption saw notable declines, alongside advancements in accountability within legislative bodies and reductions in judicial misconduct. The index highlighted that critical indicators such as bureaucratic inefficiency and judicial malpractice improved by five points from the previous year.

This year’s CPI also expanded its survey to incorporate two additional countries, thereby broadening the global rankings and showcasing Pakistan’s commitment to transparency on an international stage. Analysts have observed a substantial decline in corruption perceptions since 2021, with Pakistan climbing four positions in the global rankings over this period. The International Transparency Organization attributed these improvements largely to coordinated measures across both public sector initiatives and governance frameworks.

The report underscores that while challenges persist, Pakistan’s consistent upward trend on the CPI index demonstrates the efficacy of systemic reforms in enhancing public perception and institutional integrity. It reaffirms the government’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption efforts, which have collectively contributed to this positive development.
