Pakistan Stands Firm with Kashmiri People on Solidarity Day

GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN

As we observe the Kashmir Solidarity Day today, Pakistan reiterates its firm and unwavering support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their just struggle for self-determination. Under Indian occupation, the Kashmiri population remains deprived of basic rights. Yet, their resilience underscores the legitimacy of their cause.

The heart of the dispute between India and the people of Jammu and Kashmir is India’s failure to implement United Nations Security Council resolutions that guarantee a free and impartial plebiscite for self-determination. India’s persistent defiance against these resolutions undermines the principles outlined in the UN Charter, relevant Security Council resolutions, and the Fourth Geneva Convention.

The situation on the ground in Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK) has evolved from isolated incidents to an entrenched system of repression. Since the unilateral actions of August 5, 2019, India has dismantled legal safeguards, weakened local institutions, and imposed measures aimed at consolidating its permanent occupation of the disputed territory, including artificially altering the demographic makeup by reducing the Muslim majority status, forcing media to adhere to official narratives, and criminalizing any form of dissent. In this Hindutva-driven framework, residents in IOJK face ongoing discrimination. Recent profiling of mosques where religious leaders are forced to provide personal details, photographs, and sectarian affiliations reveals the extent of institutionalized Islamophobia.

Grave human rights violations persist unabated. UN experts have noted nearly 2,800 individuals— including journalists, students, and human rights defenders—have been arbitrarily detained since August 5, 2019.

Pakistan urges the international community to take decisive action to address worsening human rights conditions in IOJK, ensure accountability for India’s illegal unilateral actions, persuade India to implement UN Security Council resolutions, and allow the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination.

The Government of Pakistan will continue to support its Kashmiri brothers and sisters politically, morally, and diplomatically. Our efforts remain focused on achieving a peaceful and lasting resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
