Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has called for an immediate ceasefire and end to military hostilities in Lebanon during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. He expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in the country.

Ahmad noted that despite existing ceasefire arrangements, conditions on the ground continued to worsen due to ongoing military operations and incursions into Lebanese territory. He warned that these actions were exacerbating tensions and endangering civilian lives.

Millions of people have been affected by the conflict, with many displaced from their homes and facing severe shortages of essential services and humanitarian assistance. Ahmad condemned attacks on medical personnel, humanitarian workers, and civilian infrastructure as grave violations of international humanitarian law.

He urged the international community to respond swiftly and effectively to prevent further suffering and expressed regret over damage caused to Lebanon’s historical and cultural heritage. Ahmad reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence, calling on all parties to honor their ceasefire commitments.
