Pakistani Embassies and Consulates in UAE Restored Passport Services
On Tuesday, Pakistani embassies and consulates across various countries, including the UAE, resumed passport services after a suspension that affected thousands of overseas Pakistanis. The disruption was due to a system-wide technical fault at the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGI&P) headquarters in Islamabad since April 29.
The embassy and consulate in the UAE confirmed the resumption through official notifications, stating that all applicants may visit for passport processing during specified times. The glitch disrupted operations across the Gulf region and other areas like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait.
In the UAE, missions in Dubai and Abu Dhabi process between 800 to 1,000 applications daily, causing significant inconvenience due to the suspension for residents needing passport renewals for travel, employment, and visa requirements. Officials and IT teams at DGI&P had been working on resolving the issue since late April.
