PEC Allows Pre-Medical Students to Enroll in Engineering Programs

The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has announced a new policy allowing students who have completed their FSc (Intermediate) with pre-medical subjects to enroll in BS Engineering programs.

According to a report, the PEC has approved an 8-week conditional program designed to bridge the academic gap for pre-medical students before they begin their engineering studies.

PEC Registrar Dr. Nasir Mahmood Khan explained that this decision followed consultations with university vice-chancellors and experts. He noted that Pakistan’s engineering universities, which used to produce around 30,000 engineers annually, have seen a decline in recent years, with nearly 10,000 fewer admissions in a single year. Some universities have even shut down their engineering departments due to a lack of students.

“The PEC Governing Body, in its 49th meeting held on June 28th, decided to allow students with Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) Intermediate Pre-Medical qualifications to be admitted to all engineering programs,” stated a letter issued by the PEC on July 11th.
