PIA Reinstates Direct London Flights After Six-Year Hiatus

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) resumes direct flight operations to London after six years hiatus.

The first flight from Islamabad departed today, inaugurated by Secretary of Defence Lieutenant General (Retired) Muhammad Ali and British High Commissioner Jane Marriott at Islamabad International Airport.

Marriott welcomed the restoration of PIA’s London flights as a positive development. She noted that hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis live in the UK and that the resumption reflects growing relations between Pakistan and the UK.

Defence Secretary highlighted the milestone for Pakistan’s aviation sector, noting long-standing history with London which was interrupted for six years. He expressed satisfaction at the connection being restored and appreciated efforts of PIA and Civil Aviation Authority officials.

He praised British High Commissioner’s special interest in restoring the route, stating her efforts played a key role in resumption of PIA’s London flights.

PIA is expected to operate four weekly flights from Islamabad to London, according to an earlier statement by PIA spokesperson.
