PM forms committee to review controversial telecom bill; Azam Nazir Tarar heads with Sherry Rehman and others in panel

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a committee to assess the Telecommunication Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill. The panel, led by Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, comprises Senator Sherry Rehman, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, Attorney General Mansoor Awan and legal and IT experts.

The committee will scrutinize the Right-of-way Framework in Section 2(qb), 2(ma), Section 27A and 27B of the Telecommunication Reorganisation Amendment Bill. It will also examine rights-of-way for telecommunication facilities and consider operations related to private property and housing societies before submitting its recommendations.

The prime minister has instructed this committee to prioritize reviewing the bill and present its proposals promptly.
