PM Meloni Denies Ending Italy’s Deals with Israel; Viral Clip Debunked

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni did not terminate all deals with Israel on April 24, 2026. The claim originated from a social media post showing a video of Meloni supposedly ripping up papers and storming off after ending all agreements with Israel. However, experts say the development has symbolic value instead of concrete consequences.

On April 14, Italy suspended a defense agreement involving military equipment exchange and technology research with Israel. Despite this, Meloni’s right-wing government remains one of Israel’s closest allies in Europe. Recent weeks have seen criticism from the Italian government regarding Tel Aviv’s attacks on Lebanon.

The video shared on social media showed visual inconsistencies such as distorted facial features and exaggerated expressions. AI detection tools flagged it as 72% AI-generated. No credible US, Italian, Israeli or international media outlets reported Meloni calling off all deals with Israel. Similar reports were found by Turkey’s Daily Sabah, Al Jazeera, and TRT.

A reverse image search revealed that the video was used in a Reuters news report from November 3, 2023, featuring Meloni at an AI Safety Summit in Britain. This fact check confirms that the claim is false.
