Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Visit Modena After Attack
Sunday marks the day Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will travel to Modena following a car-ramming incident that injured several people. The attack occurred on Saturday in the city centre, where eight individuals were hurt, four of them seriously.
The suspect, a 30-year-old man of North African origin born in Italy, attempted to flee and stabbed one passerby who tried to stop him. He was later apprehended by the police.
Modena’s prosecutors stated that the suspect is under investigation for manslaughter and personal injury. The attack targeted pedestrians indiscriminately in the city centre, home to over 180,000 residents.
The victim’s mental health history comes into focus as it’s revealed he received treatment for schizoid personality disorder in 2022 before disappearing from public view. Two of those seriously injured lost their legs, with one in a life-threatening condition.
