PM Sharif launches Rs38 billion Ramazan relief package

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled a massive Rs38 billion Ramazan relief package in Islamabad. The government aims to distribute this aid equitably among eligible families across Pakistan, including all four provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan. This initiative underscores the commitment of the Pakistani administration to addressing the needs of those who are often left behind during religious festivities.

This year’s relief effort marks a significant departure from previous methods. Traditionally, communities have shared resources with underprivileged members during Ramazan; however, concerns about quality and inefficiency in past distribution models led Sharif to propose an innovative approach. The digital system implemented last year has proven effective in overcoming operational challenges and ensuring transparency.

Last Ramazan, the government allocated Rs20 billion to deserving families through this transparent method. This time around, with a budget of Rs38 billion, 12.1 million eligible households are set to receive assistance directly into their bank accounts or digital wallets. Each household will be granted Rs13,000, a substantial sum that comes at a crucial time in the holy month.

In his address, Sharif highlighted the need for transparency and efficiency in the distribution process. He pledged to personally oversee its implementation to guarantee effectiveness. The announcement came as he also congratulated Tarique Rahman on winning Bangladesh’s recent election and invited him to visit Pakistan, demonstrating his proactive stance towards regional cooperation and development.
