Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that economic benefits from government policies would be passed on to the public once regional peace was fully restored. He emphasized that lasting stability is essential for sustained growth and prosperity.
During a meeting with women parliamentarians of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the prime minister said the government had made every effort to maximize relief for citizens in the Budget 2026-27 while introducing measures to empower women and expand their role in national development. He credited diplomatic efforts for helping restore peace.
The prime minister thanked friendly countries that supported peace initiatives and praised the role of Pakistan’s leadership in managing the crisis. He said Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and other members of the government had worked actively to promote peace since the onset of regional tensions.
The prime minister stressed that peace in the region and around the world is critical for countries seeking to achieve their economic development goals. He highlighted the government’s economic management, stating every effort was made to shield citizens from the impact of global inflation.
Unlike some other countries in the region, Pakistan did not face any crisis or long queues for fuel due to effective planning by the government team. Citizens were protected from hardship as much as possible, and a historic relief package was provided for the middle class and economically vulnerable segments of society.
Referring to austerity measures, the prime minister said sacrifices had begun with the cabinet and government institutions during the recent crisis. He added that it was unacceptable for the public to make sacrifices while the elite continue to enjoy privileges. The government had provided Rs128 billion in subsidies and launched a broad austerity drive to reduce pressure on the public.
The prime minister thanked provincial governments for working closely with the federation to maintain economic stability and paid tribute to the people of Pakistan for their support during challenging times. He described the federal budget as people-friendly, designed to accelerate industrial activity and support an export-led economy. Next year’s spending plan prioritizes water reservoirs, information technology, agriculture, and minerals to strengthen the country’s economic foundations.
The prime minister said these achievements reflected the collective efforts of “Team Pakistan” and expressed confidence that the country would continue its journey towards becoming a developed nation. Women parliamentarians praised the government’s peace efforts and welcomed budget measures aimed at empowering women and promoting equal opportunities in education and development. Participants also presented proposals related to public welfare projects, education, healthcare, youth employment, industry, communications, and food security.
