PM Shehbaz Announces Relief Package for Electricity Consumers Using Up to 200 Units

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiled a substantial relief package worth 50 billion rupees for domestic electricity consumers using up to 200 units per month.

Addressing an energy sector reform ceremony in Islamabad, he stated that the package would benefit 25 million domestic consumers, comprising 94% of the total domestic user base, over the months of July, August, and September.

Federal Cabinet Approves Major Hike in Electricity Tariff

Under the package, the cost per unit of electricity will be reduced to between four and seven rupees. This subsidy will also extend to K-Electric consumers. The funding for this initiative will come from the development fund.

Sharif highlighted that the relief is intended to mitigate the impact of rising electricity prices during the peak summer months. He noted that electricity consumption typically decreases as the weather becomes milder from October onwards.
