Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his sympathies to Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim following devastating floods across Malaysia.
In a call, Shehbaz Sharif expressed solidarity with the Malaysian people, commending the swift response of their government to the crisis.
He announced the immediate dispatch of humanitarian aid to support Malaysia during these testing times and assured all possible assistance from Pakistan.
Huge flooding caused by heavy rain in Malaysia has forced more than 122,000 people out of their homes across the country. Three people have also died, according to Malaysian disaster officials.
The flooding, which began earlier in the week, is mostly concentrated on the north-eastern state of Kelantan, which borders Thailand. Also affected are Terengganu, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis, Selangr, johor, Melaka and Perak.
There are fears the number could rise, as heavy rain and storm warnings remain in place. Thousands of emergency services personnel have been deployed in Malaysia to help rescue people stranded and shelters are being provided.
Highlighting the positive trajectory of bilateral ties, Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Both leaders agreed to maintain high-level engagements, with Shehbaz Sharif planning a visit to Kuala Lumpur early next year.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim thanked Shehbaz Sharif for his support and stressed the importance of deepening collaboration between the two nations.
