PMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall and Flash Floods in Parts of Pakistan

Karachi may experience rainfall starting from July 8

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall across the country from July 5 to July 7.

Ongoing rainfall has already brought relief from the intense heat in Islamabad and various cities in Punjab, leading to more pleasant weather and cooler temperatures, although humidity levels remain high in parts of Punjab.

The PMD has issued warnings about the potential risks associated with the heavy rainfall. Flash floods are expected in riverine areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Abbottabad, Swat, Kashmir, and Dera Ghazi Khan. Additionally, there is a risk of urban flooding in Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Peshawar. The mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are at risk of landslides.

While most of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain hot and humid, Karachi may experience rainfall starting from July 8. The PMD has also highlighted the possibility of urban flooding in Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Peshawar from July 5 to 7. Landslides may disrupt roads in the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Karachi saw a drizzle on Wednesday night, providing some relief from the intense heat, with clouds continuing to cover the city on Thursday morning.
