A cop was seriously injured Wednesday night as unidentified assailants threw a hand grenade into a police post near Khar tehsil’s Jinnah Bus Terminal. The incident occurred around three kilometers from the district headquarters, and one officer suffered minor injuries while the rest were unscathed.

The spokesperson for Bajaur District Police, Israr Khan, informed Dawn that although no damage was inflicted on the post, a part of a nearby hotel sustained structural damage as well. A police team immediately responded to the scene upon receiving reports about the attack and began searching for suspects involved in the incident.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for this assault. In recent weeks, law enforcement personnel have faced escalating attacks in KP. Last week, a policeman was martyred when unidentified terrorists opened fire on a post in War Mamund tehsil of Bajaur district. Two months ago, four cops were killed and two others wounded as they patrolled in the same area.

In February, an SHO officer was also killed after terrorists attacked a police station in War Mamund tehsil. The trend underscores the heightened threat faced by police forces across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
