President Zardari, PM Shehbaz Sharif Warn Climate Change Threatens Health & Economy

President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have emphasized that climate change poses significant risks to health, economic stability, and food security. In his World Environment Day message, President Zardari highlighted Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate risks despite minimal contribution to global emissions. He called for urgent measures to improve water management, reduce waste, protect natural resources, preserve forests, promote biodiversity, and accelerate renewable energy projects.

President Zardari stressed the importance of making environmental protection a central pillar of national policy and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to international cooperation in addressing climate action. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to environmental protection and emphasized the need for coordinated international efforts to tackle climate-related threats. He noted that Pakistan is among the countries most severely affected by climate change impacts, such as floods and droughts, which have led to significant human and economic losses.
