Princess Anne Shakes Hand Instead of Hug at Six Nations Final

At last week’s Six Nations final where France and Scotland faced off, Princess Anne’s presence captured attention for all the right reasons. The moment that stole the spotlight was when Sione Tuipulotu, captain of the Scottish team, attempted to hug her.

However, in keeping with royal formality, Princess Anne opted for a handshake instead of an embrace as she presented the Alaud Alliance Trophy to Tuipulotu, the newly crowned champion. This action left Gabby Logan, the match’s TV presenter, chuckling, “He always goes for the hug, but Princess Anne is sticking to the proper etiquette and hands over the trophy.”

The relationship between Anne and Scottish Rugby Union has been long-standing. For nearly three decades, she has served as a patron, often attending Murrayfield since the 1980s. In addition to her patronage role, Anne is known for frequently visiting the stadium.

The Scottish Rugby Union praised Princess Anne as a “long-standing and committed supporter of Scottish rugby.” Her support extends beyond casual visits; she actively participates in various events and activities that benefit the sport.
