PTA: Internet Issues to Be Resolved by End of October

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that the current internet disruptions across the country are expected to be resolved by the end of October.

PTA Chairman, Major General (retd) Hafeezur Rahman, assured journalists that the authority does not plan to impose further slowdowns on internet services.

Rahman highlighted that social media platforms have largely complied with PTA regulations, with a 93% compliance rate—except for X (formerly Twitter), which is only meeting 27% of regulatory requirements. He clarified that decisions regarding the potential closure of X lie with the federal government, and the platform will be fully restored upon its request.

Addressing concerns about internet shutdowns, Rahman pointed out that Pakistan experienced seven shutdowns in 2023, significantly fewer than India’s 116. He emphasized that while he opposes such measures, national security remains the top priority.
