The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that all SIM cards registered in the names of deceased individuals will be blocked starting October 15, 2024.

To prevent disruption, the PTA has urged citizens to transfer these SIMs to their own names by completing the necessary documentation at the respective SIM provider’s franchise or service center.

This action is part of a three-phase plan by the PTA aimed at eliminating SIMs linked to fraudulent or outdated information.

The first phase, set to begin on August 16, will involve the blocking of SIMs registered with fake or canceled CNICs. The second phase will focus on SIMs associated with expired CNICs.

The PTA is working with data provided by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to execute this plan.

Subscribers have already started receiving notifications on their SIMs about these upcoming changes.
