In a significant move toward mutual growth, the Punjab government in Pakistan and the World Bank have pledged to deepen their collaborative efforts across crucial sectors such as health, education, housing, climate resilience, and digital governance.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif recently welcomed a high-level delegation from the World Bank, led by its President Ajay Banga. During this meeting, both parties discussed strategic plans for expanding their partnership in various initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.

Maryam Nawaz praised the World Bank’s commitment to fostering welfare-focused projects and highlighted Punjab’s progress in areas like tourism, education, healthcare, and skill development programs. She emphasized the province’s focus on financial stability, sustainable business models, and its adherence to the Country Partnership Framework (CPF).

Ajay Banga commended Punjab for its achievements in these sectors and reviewed several World Bank-supported projects across various domains. He assured continued support and investment in climate resilience, digital governance, and inclusive development initiatives.

The chief minister also underscored the importance of housing schemes such as “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” and social welfare programs like the Nigehban Package and Himmat Card for deserving citizens. She reiterated Punjab’s dedication to enhancing its infrastructure and economic environment through these comprehensive efforts.

Furthermore, Nawaz Sharif highlighted the World Bank’s role in supporting digital payments reforms and governance transformations, stating that such initiatives are pivotal in strengthening overall governance within the province.

These strategic enhancements not only underscore the World Bank’s commitment to global development but also reflect Punjab’s proactive stance towards modernizing its governance systems. With these commitments, both parties aim to create over 30 million jobs across Pakistan by leveraging innovative digital solutions and sustainable business models in health, education, housing, climate resilience, and digital governance.
