Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is elevating the Crime Control Department (CCD) into the province’s premier investigative body, aiming to bolster crime control efforts and restore public confidence. The CCD will now incorporate advanced forensic tools, AI surveillance systems, and cutting-edge technology across all districts.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized that the CCD’s capabilities would be modeled after five of the world’s top agencies for crime control. These enhancements include specialized machinery, modern equipment, state-of-the-art intelligence systems, as well as facilities like improved offices and headquarters in every division, district, and tehsil across Punjab.

Following her announcement, Maryam Nawaz Sharif outlined a robust campaign against illegal firearms that would commence immediately post-Eid-ul-Fitr. The CCD will also establish specialized units and residential accommodations to combat rising crime rates.

The initiatives have already borne fruit: homicide cases and crimes targeting women have fallen significantly, while robberies are down by 77 percent compared to the previous year. Mobile and bag snatchings have decreased by 49%, vehicle thefts by 17%, attempted murders by 31%, and kidnappings for ransom by an impressive 45%.

In addition, a new law is on track to restrict illegal arms possession. The CCD has also been tasked with addressing the growing issue of acid attacks, and Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated a modern criminal research and investigation center within the department.

This initiative not only aims to reduce crime but also aims to build public trust in law enforcement agencies.
