Punjab Eases Property Sell & Purchase for Overseas Pakistanis with Historic Legal Amendment

For the first time in Punjab’s history, overseas Pakistanis can now buy and sell property without facing legal complications, with a new draft amendment to a 116-year-old law.

The proposed change to Section-31 of the Registration Act 1908 will allow overseas Pakistanis to register sale deed statements directly at Pakistani embassies, expected to save them hundreds of millions of rupees in time and travel expenses.

Previously, overseas Pakistanis had to visit the relevant embassies to register their power of attorney, which would then be sent to Pakistan. The recipient in Pakistan would be authorized to buy or sell the property in front of the registrar. This old process often led to legal complications and instances of fraud and cheating.

The amendment will streamline the property transaction process, making it easier and more secure for Pakistanis living abroad to manage their real estate affairs back home.
