Punjab Government to Provide Discounted Electric Bikes for Students

The Punjab government is set to distribute electric bikes, and has decided to allocate Rs25 billion to offer subsidized electric bikes, to students through easy installments, among students at reduced prices. The initiative follows the introduction of electric rickshaws in the region, as part of a broader strategy to promote sustainable transportation and curb smog-related issues.

Transport Minister Ibrahim Hassan highlighted the significant role of transportation in Punjab's smog concerns, emphasizing the need for eco-friendly alternatives. The government aims to distribute a staggering 200,000 electric bikes to students, accompanied by discounted rates, fostering a green revolution in the province.

In collaboration with the Bank of Punjab, a student-friendly financing scheme has been launched, offering convenient installments and a minimal six percent interest rate over two years. This holistic approach reflects Punjab's commitment to environmental stewardship and the adoption of sustainable practices in the transport sector.
