Punjab Govt Announces Free Transport, Price Control in 17 Districts for Public Relief

Punjab Government Launches Free Transport Services

The Punjab government has approved free transport services in 17 districts as part of public relief efforts. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where the impact of oil prices on transport fares was discussed.

Free transport will be implemented in Gujranwala, Multan, and Sialkot, with pilot projects underway. A report on per kilometer transport fares is to be submitted within 24 hours.

Price Control Measures

The meeting reviewed price control measures across Punjab. Officials were directed to conduct a detailed assessment of the prices of 23 essential food items in every district, including Lahore. The Chief Minister also expressed dissatisfaction over deaths caused by open drainage and ordered surveys of ponds and stagnant water areas.

Public was urged not to purchase items sold above notified prices. Sanitation issues were highlighted, with orders for immediate cleaning of selected union councils in Jhang. The chief minister directed further improvement in sanitation conditions across the province and set a two-week deadline for improvements.

Sanitation Monitoring

Digital mapping using AI support has been launched to enhance sanitation monitoring. This initiative aims at real-time tracking of workers in streets of every union council, underlining the government’s commitment to improving public health standards.
