Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb conducts an inspection of Lahore’s Ramadan Festival, ensuring affordability and quality for low-income families
Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb recently made a surprise visit to the bustling Ramadan Festival at Jailani Park in Lahore. Her goal was clear: she wanted to ensure that the festival would be both affordable and high-quality, particularly beneficial for those from lower-income backgrounds.
During her inspection, which took place earlier this month, Minister Aurangzeb closely monitored the prices of food items and daily necessities, as well as the overall quality of the merchandise available. Her instructions emphasized proper management to maximize public benefit.
Highlighting the initiative’s objectives, she stated that it was organized in line with directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aimed at providing a special Ramadan relief package for vulnerable households.
Retailers participating in the event have offered discounts on essential items exceeding 20%, making products accessible to more people. The festival operates through a public-private partnership model where brands voluntarily offer these discounts, without any financial burden on the government treasury.
Over 165 stalls were stocked with high-quality food and daily-use items. Minister Aurangzeb underscored that the event’s success hinged on the cooperation of participating brands and industry stakeholders, who provided full support in executing this initiative.
In addition to offering discounts, there are comprehensive arrangements for public convenience and safety, including the presence of rescue teams, waste management services, mobile clinics, and security personnel. These measures ensure a clean, safe, and well-organized environment for visitors.
Speaking at the event, Minister Aurangzeb expressed her gratitude towards Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for her commitment to transparency and public service. She also acknowledged the industry partners and brand ambassadors for their invaluable contributions in making the festival a success.
Across Punjab, 74 Ramadan Festivals are currently benefiting the public by providing special gifts and engaging activities for children, including those with special needs. These initiatives underscore the government’s dedication to welfare during the holy month of Ramadan.
