A spokesman for Russia’s envoy to the UN stated that the meetings are due to ongoing strikes on civilian infrastructure in Iran, including educational and healthcare facilities.
A U.S. military investigation revealed a targeting mistake caused a Tomahawk cruise missile strike on a girls’ school in Minab, killing over 160 children. The United States, holding the Security Council presidency this month, scheduled the meeting for 10:00 am New York time.
The campaign has prompted large-scale Iranian retaliation across the Gulf and effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, which carries a fifth of global crude and liquefied natural gas during peacetime.
