Punjab province is set to enforce a complete ban on all types of plastic bags, including shopping and polythene bags, starting from June 6.
During his address at the Punjab Assembly today, Provincial Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq revealed that the decision was made under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. He outlined plans for a comprehensive cleanliness initiative to be launched within the next four months.
Minister Rafiq emphasized that the cleanliness system will be implemented at the tehsil level, with waste collection from every household. Additionally, he stated that streets will undergo daily cleaning, leading to the creation of nearly 100,000 new jobs under the new system.
Furthermore, the Minister announced the establishment of landfill sites across Punjab for waste disposal, citing the closure of over 2,000 water supply schemes due to contamination concerns.
