Punjab Traffic Police Reinstate 42-Day Waiting Period for Motorcyclists’ Driving Licences

The Punjab Traffic Police have reintroduced the mandatory 42-day waiting period for motorcyclists holding learner permits to apply for a permanent driving licence. This decision reverses the temporary relief announced three months ago, which had allowed motorcyclists to apply for licences immediately after obtaining learner permits.

On Monday, the traffic police clarified that the relaxed policy was no longer in effect. “From now on, learner permit holders will have to wait for 42 days to appear in the test for a valid driving licence,” they stated.

Traffic Additional IG Mirza Faran Baig underscored the importance of compliance, saying, “Driving without a licence will not be allowed, and strict enforcement will be made to ensure road safety.”

In November alone, the Punjab Traffic Police issued over 841,000 driving licences. These included more than 243,000 learner permits, 308,000 new licences, and nearly 284,000 renewals, according to a spokesperson for the department.
