Railway Blast Derails Four Jaffar Express Bogies, No Casualties Reported

QUETTA: Four bogies of the Quetta-bound Jaffar Express train, originating from Peshawar, were derailed in a blast on the railway track linking Sindh to Balochistan on Monday night. Railway officials confirmed that the incident occurred between Sultankot and Jacobabad in Sindh.

A senior official of Pakistan Railways told Dawn that the derailment was caused by a blast which damaged the track. No fatalities or injuries were reported during this particular attack, but repair work has begun after the area was cleared. A relief train has already been deployed to resume railway traffic on the main line.

The Jaffar Express has faced several attacks over the past year. In November 2025, it narrowly avoided an armed assault in the Bolan Pass area of Kachhi district, Balochistan. A month later, a bomb attack struck Nasirabad district, causing at least seven injuries to passengers.

On October 31, 2025, four bogies of the Jaffar Express were derailed due to a blast in Shikarpur district of Sindh, resulting in seven injured individuals, including women and children. In September of that year, twelve people, including civilians, were injured when the Quetta-bound Jaffar Express was targeted by a bomb explosion in Masht area of Nasirabad district.

On March 11, 2025, terrorists hijacked the Peshawar-bound passenger train, carrying 440 passengers. They opened fire on the train and held hostages for two days until security forces launched an operation to rescue them. These incidents underscore the ongoing threat faced by railway infrastructure in Pakistan.
