ISLAMABAD: In a solemn press conference held by Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, Coordinator of the National Peace Message Committee, religious scholars condemned the recent attack on Imam Bargah Tarlai in full. The committee was established to promote peace throughout Pakistan, and representatives from all major sects have echoed calls for unity against extremism.

Ashrafi explained that members of various religions came together at the Pakistani Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) following the Tarlai attack. They visited injured worshippers with tears in their eyes, emphasizing solidarity and support. This unprecedented gathering underscored a united front against terrorism, much to Ashrafi’s satisfaction. He highlighted the importance of Pakistan’s security institutions’ efforts while expressing full support for them.

Ashrafi also commended individuals who responded quickly by donating blood at hospitals. He noted that no division can sever the bond between Pakistan and its people. The attack was seen as an affront not only to Islam but also to the nation, a sentiment shared widely among attendees at the press conference.

The Coordinator also addressed concerns about cross-border threats against Pakistan, stressing the country’s commitment to Afghanistan despite ongoing challenges there. He asserted that Pakistan stood united in its fight against extremism and terrorism, with scholars from all religious backgrounds reinforcing this message.

In contrast to the somber tone of the conference, a pleasant afternoon was witnessed in Islamabad on Friday. Amidst sunny skies, Abid Jaffery made his customary journey to the Imambargah Tarlai Kalan for Friday prayers. His frequent attendance at the mosque had not prepared him for the reality that awaited when the blast struck.

The tragedy unfolded as the worshippers prayed and celebrated their faith with others gathered within the Imam Bargah Tarlai. A suicide bombing devastated the premises, claiming over 36 lives and leaving more than a hundred injured among its victims. Jaffery was fortunate enough to be one of those who managed to escape unharmed, though his mind could not escape the horrifying events that unfolded.

The aftermath of the attack revealed deep societal divisions and calls for action against terrorism. As Pakistan continues on its path toward healing and unity, the National Peace Message Committee and the voices of religious scholars will remain central in rallying the nation together in the face of adversity.
