Sakhalin Residents Witness Breathtaking ‘Double Sunrise’ in Stunning Russian Sky Phenomenon

Residents of Sakhalin Island, Russia, were astonished by an unusual sight in the sky that seemed to display two suns shining simultaneously. The residents captured this remarkable phenomenon on camera and shared it widely on social media. According to foreign media reports and meteorologists, what they observed was not a true appearance of two suns but rather a natural atmospheric event known as a “sun dog” (parhelion).

Experts explained that ice crystals formed due to extreme cold temperatures reflected sunlight, causing the illusion of multiple suns in the sky. This optical phenomenon occurs when light passes through tiny ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. The temperature on Sakhalin Island was recorded at -14 degrees Celsius, with forecasts predicting a drop as low as -23 degrees Celsius.
