Saudi Arabia is making advancements in its cloud seeding initiative, successfully increasing rainfall over Makkah and surrounding holy sites, according to a recent study reported by Gulf News. The study, conducted by the Regional Programme for Cloud Seeding, highlights the kingdom’s focused efforts to enhance precipitation and boost cloud density in critical areas.

Cloud seeding, a weather modification technique, involves dispersing substances like silver iodide or potassium iodide into clouds via aircraft or helicopters to stimulate rainfall.

The research team also evaluated weather patterns in the Taif Governorate and plans to present their findings at the upcoming International Rainmakers Conference. This presentation will underscore Saudi Arabia’s active participation in global weather modification initiatives.

As the programme progresses, further experiments are planned to build on these promising results. The findings will be shared with the international community and local stakeholders to deepen the understanding and application of cloud seeding techniques.
