Saudi authorities have handed over the new Kiswah of the Holy Kaaba to its custodian ahead of its scheduled replacement on 1st Muharram, marking the start of the new Hijri year.
The Kiswah, the sacred covering of the Holy Kaaba, will be replaced on the 1st of Muharram this year. This follows the annual tradition observed at the beginning of the Islamic New Year.
A ceremony was held on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques during which the new Kiswah of the Holy Kaaba was formally handed over to the custodian responsible for the Kaaba.
The Kiswah, made from hundreds of kilograms of silk along with silver and gold-plated threads, reflects the importance and reverence attached to one of Islam’s most sacred symbols. A special ceremony will be organized to mark the installation of the new covering.
