Security guard Amin Abdullah, 51, died while protecting children at the Islamic Centre of San Diego. He engaged two gunmen in a shootout and activated a security lockdown before being killed along with mosque elder Mansour Kaziha, 78, and Uber driver Nadir Awad, 57.
Muhammad Amin Abdullah, 28, remembered his father as a hero who would have wanted to protect people. His brothers Jibreel and Khaled also spoke of their father’s kindness and dedication to the community.
The family urged others to honor their father by living with compassion and service. Police are investigating the attack as a hate crime but have not provided details on the motive or the attackers’ actions, which led to their own deaths.
