Joint Security Sweep Nets Illegal Afghan Residents Across Cities
Pakistan’s security forces carried out a large-scale search operation in multiple cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, and Murree, against illegal Afghan residents. The joint operations, involving Rangers, Elite Force, CTD, Dolphin Squad, and intelligence agencies, resulted in the arrest of seven suspects and the detention of 39 illegal Afghan nationals.
In Islamabad, security forces conducted searches across G-9, Peshawar Mor, and surrounding areas. The operation involved checking 317 houses, 93 shops, 27 hotels and guesthouses, 59 vehicles, and 39 motorcycles. Seven suspects were arrested for harboring illegal Afghan nationals, and four individuals illegally residing in the country were apprehended.
In Rawalpindi, search operations took place in Pir Wadhai, Awan Town, and Misrial Road. Authorities inspected 235 houses, apprehending 63 individuals; checked 25 vehicles and 42 motorcycles. The operation resulted in multiple illegal Afghan nationals and those carrying fake identity cards being taken into custody. Additionally, nineteen more individuals were arrested at different police station areas.
Similar operations took place in Jhelum and Chakwal, where houses and informal settlements were searched for illegal foreign residents. Security agencies seized illegal weapons and narcotics during these searches. In one instance, an absconding suspect was detained in Jhelum and an illegally held rifle was recovered.
In Murree, police and intelligence agencies conducted a thorough inspection of 50 houses, 95 vehicles, and 20 individuals. This joint operation under an integrated operational framework involved 368 personnel deployed across the city to clear unlawful residents from various parts.
Authorities emphasized that strict screening of illegal Afghan nationals, verification of residential records, and tenancy agreements were conducted during these operations. Security agencies reiterated their commitment to continuing operations until all areas are cleared of unlawful foreign residents.
