Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has issued an urgent directive aimed at curbing unscrupulous fare hikes during Eidul Fitr. Addressing a gathering, he underscored the need for swift action against transporters who manipulate fares, placing undue financial strain on passengers.

Memon, acknowledging that some businesses exploit the festive period for profit, emphasized that this is unacceptable behavior and vowed to enforce strict regulations. He noted that providing relief to the public falls squarely within the purview of responsible authorities—policymakers, district administrations, and the National Highway Authority among others.

Sharjeel outlined a comprehensive strategy requiring all stakeholders to be vigilant in their enforcement activities. The police, traffic police, and other relevant departments were ordered to take immediate measures against offending transporters operating within their jurisdictions. They were also mandated to submit daily updates detailing these operations to ensure transparency and accountability.

The minister’s directive underscores the commitment to ensuring fair practices during a time when families gather to celebrate. It highlights the need for swift action by authorities committed to protecting citizens from exploitative fare hikes. As such, Memon’s initiative is seen as a significant step in safeguarding public interest amidst seasonal economic pressures.
