In a significant development, the Constitutional Bench of the Sindh High Court has ordered the provincial government to repeal its controversial Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) notification. The court found the decree unconstitutional and in contravention of established legal precedents.

Today’s decision comes amid ongoing petitions challenging preventive detention measures for Pakistan Tehreek-Federalists (PTI) workers, who have been detained on allegations of disturbing public order. Barrister Ali Tahir, representing PTI petitioners, revealed that more than 187 families are affected by these detentions. He stressed that his clients were unjustly held under false claims.

Following the court’s ruling, PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh condemned the provincial government’s actions. “More than 400 PTI workers remain incarcerated in Sindh, with over 100 others detained illegally at police stations,” he stated. “The use of MPO detentions is a blatant violation of our constitution.”

Simultaneously, efforts to unravel the truth behind the Gul Plaza fire tragedy have taken a crucial step forward. A judicial commission has officially commenced its work under the leadership of Justice Agha Faisal from the Sindh High Court. The inquiry aims to provide transparency and thorough investigation into this incident.

Earlier today, the Sindh High Court dismissed constitutional petitions related to the Gul Plaza fire, with the judicial commission’s formation serving as a pivotal move in their investigation.
