Former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore has been sentenced to 18 months probation and fined over $1,000 after pleading no contest to two misdemeanor charges. The charges involve trespassing and malicious use of a telecommunications device following an incident involving a staff member with whom Moore had an inappropriate relationship.

More serious charges, including a felony, were dropped as part of the plea agreement. District Court Judge Cedric Simpson said during sentencing that he doesn’t believe incarceration should be appropriate for this case. He warned Moore that all bets are off if there’s a violation.

The staff member involved, Paige Shiver, stated in a statement that she believes the outcome does not reflect the harm done to her. She described how Moore broke into her apartment, crying and yelling, enraged, and came at her with knives, threatening her life.

Moore has also been ordered to avoid contact with Shiver, abstain from drugs and alcohol, and continue counseling. Before sentencing, he expressed that he has taken the process very seriously.
