The Sindh Excise Department has begun transferring property tax records to local government bodies, starting with all divisions in Karachi. This move is part of a phased approach, with the records of Hyderabad’s nine districts to be transferred in the next phase, followed by Mirpur Khas, Benazirabad, Larkana, and Sukkur divisions.

Secretary Excise Muhammad Saleem Rajput issued the notification detailing the transition. According to the order, property tax collection staff will assist with field activities, including motor vehicle tax inspections and anti-narcotics operations.

The notification also indicates a reorganization of 23 excise divisions into ‘regions and towns.’ Excise and Taxation Minister Sharjeel Memon has expressed that this restructuring is expected to improve department performance, enhance motor vehicle tax recovery, and increase anti-narcotics efforts throughout the city.
